For this year’s Pack 104 Fall Campout, on September 23-25, we are going to Mount Madonna in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Mt. Madonna is a gorgeous county-run park in Santa Clara County. We have reserved the Huckleberry group camp for the pack. Your whole family (and friends!) are welcome to come join us for three days and two nights of camping, hiking, and of course S’mores.
The park has several lovely eco-zones, including redwoods, oak woodland, and grassy meadows. This gem is a well maintained, 4,605 acre park dominated by the redwood forest characteristic of the Santa Cruz Mountain range. To the east, the park overlooks the Santa Clara Valley, to the west, Monterey Bay.
We are planning two hikes, including one in Mt. Madonna park that will earn your scout a prize through the Agents of Discovery program (more info on this Bay Area program can be seen here: https://agentsofdiscovery.com/
One option is a gentle 3.5 mile hike in Elkhorn Slough, which will earn the scouts a Monterey Trekkers patch. It is an easy walk chock full of birds, otters, and other wildlife!
The second hike will be located within Mt. Madonna park, an easy 2.4 mile walk that includes viewing the parks small herd of white fallow deer.
There will bee plenty of free time on Saturday afternoon and some of the scouts will be going horseback riding! We look forward to seeing you there.
