Pack 104 Connects with Scouts in Chiba, Japan | October 16

Roy Adam (Chartered Organization Representative), organized a fun, unique opportunity for Pack 104 Scouts to connect with Scouts who live in Chiba, Japan. This happened on Saturday, October 16, at 6 PM PST (10 am JST) via Zoom!

The Scouts had a great cultural exchange and an open Q&A period, talking for about an hour in total. Overall they had a fun time sharing their interests, hobbies, and details on their food / diet.

This was be part of JOTA/JOTI and the scouts who participated all earned a patch for taking part in the activity. See gallery below for a few photos from the event.

Pack 104 Hike up Flag Hill Recap | October 9

Pack 104 Webelo den organized a moderately strenuous pack hike in the Sunol Regional Wilderness in California on October 9th. The hike consisted of a 3.9 mile loop trail and boasts a short, steep climb up Flag Hill with 994 feet of elevation gain.

There were two scouts from the Webelo den who attended this hike with their parents. Here is a photograph of a skull that was observed on the pathway during the hike.

Starting point: Visitor center / parking lot Distance: 3.5
Time: Allow about 3 hours
Grade: Moderate
Suggested age: Bears, Webelos

Suggested Season: Fall, spring, summer.

Hike Description
Begin this hike by crossing Alameda Creek on the footbridge near park headquarters. Turn left (downstream). After a short distance, Flag Hill Trial will take off uphill, to the right. The trail zigzags up the face of the hill (make sure your hikers understand why it’s important not to shortcut switchbacks). After about a mile of rather steep uphill hiking, you’ll reach the top where you’ll probably want to take a good snack or lunch break. While on top, watch for red-tailed hawks (the red upper surface of the tail is visible when the hawk turns), turkey vultures (which hold their wings in a slight “V” and teeter in flight), and maybe even a golden eagle or falcon.
Continue your hike by dropping down the back side of Flag Hill, turning right when you reach High Valley Road. Return to the cars by way of Hayfield Road.

Pack 104 Fall Campout | September 17-19 Post-event Recap

From Friday September 17th through Sunday September 19th, about a dozen pack 104 families gathered at Camp Tamarancho located west of Fairfax, California for a fall campout. Activities were coordinated by the Marin Cub Scout Council.

Featured Saturday daytime activities included archery, BB gun range, handicrafts, Scout Skills, hiking, First Aid, knots, rock climbing, good/bad camping skills, tug of war, and a campfire with skits and storytelling. The theme for this year’s Family Fiesta was “Superheroes.”

There were over 300 people in attendance at this event!! We all had a fantastic time. Several of the adult volunteers completed their Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) training this weekend. Thank you to Camp Director Dine DeMartin and Program Director Ron Poggi for coordinating this very fun outing and for bringing together so many council members and families on this fall weekend.

 

Webelos Woods Campout | Sept 3-5 2021

The Webelos enjoyed lots of fun activities, including boating and fishing over Labor Day Weekend (Friday-Sunday).

This was a great opportunity for incoming or current Webelos I and II Scouts to work on Webelos-specific advancement activities in the beautiful setting of Camp Tamarancho. The scouts were lead and mentored by Scouts BSA and crew members from the Marin Council Boy Scouts of America.

Nerf Games VI | August 29th 2021 Post-event Recap!

On Sunday, August 29th, Pack 104 hosted our annual recruiting event. There were many Pack 104 scouts and a fair number of new families who attended.

The more senior scouts were actively helping the younger scouts and potential scouts learn how to tie different knots. Each time a participant learned a new knot, he/she/they would earn nerf darts!

Examples of knots that were part of the day’s activities include bowline, taut line hitch, sheet bend, square knot, and two half hitch.

It was great to see so many people in attendance, and following good COVID practices and etiquette for control and prevention of the virus.

Cub Scouts Pack 104, El Cerrito

Interested in learning about Cub Scouting? Boys and girls aged 5–10 years old and their families are invited to join El Cerrito Cub Scout Pack 104 at our annual Nerf Games event!

This year’s Nerf Games will be held on Sunday, August 29th, 10:00 am–12:00 pm at the upper picnic area in Cerrito Vista Park in El Cerrito.

Please bring an N-Strike Elite (or compatible) Nerf toy (but no darts please—we’ll supply those). Kids will have the opportunity to learn knots, test their Nerf skills, and play with current Pack 104 Cub Scouts. Pack 104 families and adult leaders will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Pack 104 Fall Campout Info | September 17-19

For this year’s Fall Campout on September 17-19, we’re going to try something a little different – Camp Tamarancho’s Family Fiesta!

Family Fiesta is a weekend overnight campout for Cub Scouts and their family members. This event offers an opportunity to experience many of the exciting activities that Scouting has to offer, all in one weekend. Archery, BB, handicrafts, Scout Skills, First Aid, and a campfire program are just some of activities you and your Cubs will get to enjoy. The theme for this year’s Family Fiesta is “Superheroes.”

While everyone from our Pack will be assigned to the same campsite, families need to register and pay on their own via the following link. (note: you must use this link to register, not the one on the Marin BSA Council’s website):

You have the option of arriving Friday night or Saturday morning, providing you the choice of camping under the stars for one or two nights. Delicious chef-prepared food is included! The total cost is only $25 per person, regardless of whether you’ll be there for both nights or just one night.

Pack 104 Camp Herms Conservation Service Project | August 15, 2021

On Sunday, August 15, 2021, Pack 104 scouts and families convened at 9 am at Camp Herms for our annual Camp Herms Clean Up service project.

Coffee and breakfast snacks were provided. Friends, family, neighbors and other volunteers from the community were invited to join in this service project. 29 volunteers attended this event, for a total of 83 hours of service. Big thanks to all the people who came out and to RJ, Ranger Sean, and Starla for coordinating the event details, volunteers and staff, food, tools, and other logistics.

Pack 104 Fishing Derby | August 8, 2021

On Sunday August 8th, Pack 104 hosted a fishing and crabbing outing at Fort Baker in Sausalito from 10 am to 1pm.

Some scouts brought fishing poles and buckets to try their luck at catching sturgeon, rockfish, herring, jacksmelt, halibut, and sharks.

The view from the Fort Baker Pier was spectacular.

Thank you RJ for coordinating this great outdoor event for the pack. It was a great success.

Pack 104 Swim Day in Pinole | July 25, 2021

On Sunday July 25th, Pack 104 hosted a six-hour swim day at the Black Family Residence, located in Pinole.

There were a total of 12 families who participated in the event. The 18 scouts in attendance were working on the swimming-related portions of BSA Adventures

  • “Floats and Boats” for Tigers,
  • “Spirit of the Water” for Wolves,
  • “Salmon Run” for Bears, and
  • “Aquanaut” for Webelos/AOLs

The scouts and their siblings all had a great time.

Congratulations to all the scouts who successfully completed their adventures.
